Makar Sankranti · 14 January 2027
Makar Sankranti, when the sun turns north, opens the Kumbh. It is the first bathing day of the mela and the calmest of the major snans: Haridwar is busy but not yet at its March and April peak, which makes it the best first Kumbh for older parents.
Dates: 13 January 2027 – 15 January 2027 · Duration: 3 days / 2 nights · Best for: First-time Kumbh visitors, families with grandparents, anyone avoiding the peak crowds.
Arrive, meet and settle in. Evening guided Ganga aarti at Har Ki Pauri, with time to understand what you are watching.
Pre-dawn snan and Ganga puja at Brahma Kund with a ghat purohit. Rest through the day. Kumbh by night: the lit mela city and akhara camps after dark.
Kankhal walk: Daksha Mahadev, Sati Kund and the old havelis, then departure.
