Char Dham 2027 guide

Kedarnath helicopter booking 2027: the official way

Kedarnath shuttle seats sell out in minutes, and fake ticket sellers know it. Here is how booking really works, what it cost in 2026, and the honest alternatives when seats are gone.

Updated 23 October 2026

What applies to 2027

2027 fares, operators and booking dates have not been announced. Figures here are from the 2026 season; 2027 fares depend on a new state tender.

Only one place sells shuttle tickets

Kedarnath shuttle tickets are sold only on IRCTC's HeliYatra portal (heliyatra.irctc.co.in), which IRCTC runs for the Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA). The Home Ministry's cybercrime centre and the Uttarakhand STF have both said it is the only official channel.

That includes us: we do not sell Kedarnath shuttle tickets, and nobody legitimately can. We help families book on their own IRCTC login and plan the rest of the yatra around the flight.

Helipads and 2026 fares

These were the 2026 one-way fares set by UCADA, before GST and service charges, with eight operators flying from the three helipads. In 2025 fares were raised by roughly a third midway through the season, so treat any figure as indicative until the 2027 fares are published.

  • Sersi: ₹3,043 one way
  • Phata: ₹4,840 one way
  • Guptkashi: ₹6,077 one way

How booking works

  1. Complete your Char Dham registration first; the helicopter booking needs it.
  2. Create an IRCTC HeliYatra login before the booking window opens.
  3. Booking opens in phases, each for a block of travel dates. In April 2026 all 31,450 seats for 22 April to 15 June sold in about 90 minutes.
  4. In 2026 each login could make two bookings of up to six passengers each, with limits per IP address. Names must match the photo IDs you carry.
  5. Download the ticket from IRCTC and check the reporting time printed on it.

What changed after 2025

After a helicopter crash near Gaurikund in poor visibility on 15 June 2025, the state introduced a stricter operating procedure, a command-and-control centre in Dehradun and closer DGCA supervision in the Kedarnath valley. In 2026 DGCA cut shuttle frequency by about 30% and added temporary air traffic control at Kedarnath and Badrinath.

Flights stop in bad weather and during the monsoon. Build a spare day into any plan that depends on a helicopter.

How to spot a fake ticket seller

  • An advert on Facebook or Instagram, or a website with an operator's name ("Pawan Hans", "heli services") instead of irctc.co.in
  • A seller who moves you to WhatsApp and asks for UPI payment
  • A "confirmed ticket" sent on WhatsApp or email rather than downloaded from IRCTC
  • Anyone offering seats after the official window has sold out

If you have paid a fake seller

Call 1930 or report at cybercrime.gov.in straight away; quick reports give the best chance of freezing the money. In 2025 and 2026 police arrested several gangs, and individual families lost up to ₹2 lakh.

If the seats are sold out

  • Walk: the trek from Gaurikund is about 16 km each way, usually 6 to 10 hours up. Vehicles stop at Sonprayag and a shuttle runs to Gaurikund.
  • Pony, palki or kandi: booked at the official prepaid counters at Sonprayag and Gaurikund, at rates fixed by the district administration. Pay only the posted rate.
  • Private charter: Char Dham and Do Dham helicopter packages from Sahastradhara (Dehradun) are a separate, more expensive product sold by charter operators, not shuttle tickets.
