Char Dham 2027 guide

Char Dham Yatra registration 2027, step by step

Registration is compulsory for every pilgrim and it is free. Here is the official way to do it, what you need, and the mistakes that cost families a day at a checkpoint.

What applies to 2027

The 2027 registration dates and rules have not been announced yet. This guide follows the 2026 process; we update it as soon as the 2027 notice is out.

Is registration mandatory?

Yes. Every pilgrim to Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, Badrinath and Hemkund Sahib must be registered with the Uttarakhand government, and the registration is checked at each shrine. You also need it before you can book a Kedarnath helicopter ticket, and the ID you register with must match the ID you show at the helipad.

Registration costs nothing. Anyone asking you to pay for "registration" is not the government.

The official ways to register

  • Website: registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in
  • Mobile app: "Tourist Care Uttarakhand" (Android and iPhone)
  • WhatsApp: 83948 33833, send "YATRA" (the number published in 2026 guidance; check it on the official portal first)
  • Toll-free helpline: 1364. Other helplines listed on the portal: 0135-2559898, 0135-2552627, 0135-3520100
  • In person: registration counters such as Haridwar (Rahi Hotel) and the Rishikesh transit camp, opened shortly before the yatra begins

Register online, not at the counter

In 2026 the offline counters opened on 17 April, two days before the temples opened, and handled a few thousand people a day while lakhs had already registered online. Arriving without registration can cost you a day.

Step by step (2026 process)

  1. Sign up on the portal or app with your mobile number.
  2. Create a tour: your start and end dates, the number of travellers, and which dhams you will visit on which date.
  3. Add each traveller's details. Since 2025 registration uses Aadhaar-based verification (eKYC).
  4. Download the Yatra Registration Letter. It carries a QR code that is scanned at the dhams.
  5. Carry the letter (printed or on your phone) and the same photo ID for every traveller.

When does registration open?

Online registration opened on 20 March in 2025 and on 6 March in 2026, about six weeks before the temples opened. Expect a similar window in early 2027, but go by the official announcement.

Plan for Haridwar to be busier than usual at the start of the 2027 season: the Ardh Kumbh Mela runs in Haridwar until 20 April 2027.

If you travel in a hired vehicle

Commercial vehicles on the Char Dham route need a Green Card and a Trip Card for each trip (greencard.uk.gov.in), and the trip card needs the passengers' registrations. Any operator you hire handles this; ask to see it. In 2026 vehicles were not allowed on the mountain routes between 10 pm and 4 am.

Fake websites and how to report them

Every season police warn about cloned registration sites, fake helpline numbers and WhatsApp accounts that charge for registration or sell helicopter tickets. Type the official address yourself rather than clicking an advert.

If you have been cheated, call 1930 or report at cybercrime.gov.in as soon as possible.

How we help

For every family travelling with us we fill in the registration with you, check that each traveller's dates match the itinerary, and keep a copy of the letters with the driver. If a date changes on the way, we change the plan and the registration together.

Questions families ask

Is Char Dham registration free?
Yes. The official registration on registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in, the Tourist Care Uttarakhand app or WhatsApp costs nothing.
When will Char Dham Yatra 2027 registration open?
It has not been announced yet. In 2025 it opened on 20 March and in 2026 on 6 March, so expect early 2027. We update this page when the official notice is out.
Can I go to the Char Dham without registration?
No. Registration is checked at each dham, and offline counters have limited capacity near the start of the season. Register online before you travel.
